The Willis Tower, formerly known as the Sears Tower is a 108-story skyscraper gracing the Chicago skyline. At the time of its completion in 1973, it was the tallest building in the world, surpassing the World Trade Center towers in New York, and held its rank for nearly 25 years. Named the Sears Tower throughout its history, the building was renamed in 2009 after its new tenants, Willis Group Holdings. The Willis Tower is currently the tallest building in the United States, and the seventh-tallest freestanding structure in the world. The skyscraper is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Chicago, with over one million people visiting its observation deck each year.
